Ministries

"Ministry" is from the Greek word diakoneo, meaning "to serve" or douleuo, meaning "to serve as a slave." In the New Testament, ministry is seen as service to God and to other people in His name. Jesus provided the pattern for Christian ministry— He came, not to receive service, but to give it
(See Matthew 20:28; Mark 10:45; John 13:1-17).

Christians should minister by meeting people's needs with love and humility on Christ's behalf. (See Matthew 20:26; Mark 10:43; John 2:5,9; Acts 6:3; Romans 1:1; Galatians 1:10; Colossians 4:12) Christians are to minister to others out of their devotion to Christ and their love for others, whether the other people are believers or unbelievers. Ministry to others should be impartial and unconditional, always seeking to help others as Jesus would. At PUMC that is our goal.

PUMC Choir /Praise Band
The Pelham United Methodist Choir is lead by worship leader and pianist Reeda Shelton.  The choir encompasses people of all ages and provides music for Sunday morning worship services and special events.  The choir sings traditional gospel songs as well as contemporary praise and worship songs accompanied by our members who play instruments.  New members are always welcome and we don't require that you know how to read music.  Come and join us!  Practice is Wednesday night 7:00 P.M. in the Sanctuary.  We have a need for those who play musical instruments so if you play something let us know!

PUMC Recreation Ministry
The Pelham United Methodist congregation is proud to have members who like to stay active.  We also believe that a healthy spirit and a healthy body are the grand design of our Heavenly Father.  Because we like to combine fellowship and worship, PUMC offers a church league softball team and a golf team.  These teams compete in friendly intermural sporting events in the surrounding area.  The softball team forms in the Spring so please contact us at 931-467-3584 or email Pastor De at pastorde@pelhamumc.org   if you'd like to play.  It is our goal to build a family life center by 2014 to better serve the members of PUMC.

PUMC Intercessory Prayer Meeting
Sunday's at 9:50 A.M. all are welcome in the pastors study to pray for family, friends, world issues & concerns.  Again, feel free to request prayer by phone or email.  This is also an opportunity to request the laying on of hands for healing or blessing.

PUMC Hand Chime Choir
We are blessed to have purchase a set of hand chimes and we attempt to play for special occasions.  While knowing how to read music certainly helps, it is not required.  The hand chime choir practices for special events and we are always excited to have new members.  For more information on playing hand chimes please contact us

Ministry Opportunities

There are many ways you can get more involved in Pelham United Methodist Church—we invite you to find yours today!

Children's Church Ministry
PUMC provides a room for parents of young children to sit with their child and watch the service via video link.  Families may bring children age 5 and under in the nursery during church if they like and a careing volunteer will sing and tell Bible stories to them.  If you would like to be one of those careing people please  Contact us for more information.

Student Ministries
Helping young people in junior and senior high school navigate the challenges they face and make God choices is critical. Infinity (grades 7-12) is a collection of young people who are on a quest to get connected with God and find purpose in life. We also provide communication and care packages for students away at school. Please Contact us for more information if you would like to participate in this ministry.

Technology & Media
Many components of weekend worship services are technology driven—utilizing cameras, power point presentations, video, sound and much more. View the  Contact us for more information.

Usher/Greeter/Acolyte Team
Each service has a team of people responsible to greet at all building and sanctuary entrance doors, creating a welcoming environment for both visitors and members. Ushers serve in each sanctuary for each service, seating people, distributing bulletins, collecting the offertory and assisting visitors with questions/needs. Acolytes are children 5-12 years old who are responsible for bringing and taking out the light of Christ at the beginning and end of worship services.  If you are interested in participating in any of these ministries, please Contact us for more information.

Holy Grounds Team
Coffee and a lite breakfast are available in the fellowship hall at weekend services and there is a team of people who prepare the coffee and monitor its set up and service. Please Contact us for more information if you would like to participate in this ministry.

Hospitality Team

PUMC frequently hosts guests for speaking engagements, weddings, anniversary celebration etc... There is a team that helps with food preparation and service to those guests while they are on campus. Please Contact us for more information if you would like to participate in this ministry.

Annual Special Events
Throughout the year PUMC will hold special events that require the help of  volunteers to execute.   These are great opportunities to both serve the church and meet many new people.
